This is a compilation of three previous interviews with Biomass Foes. Chris Matera, Jana Chicione, and Meg Sheehan discuss the awfulness of the current Biomass Scam and what the activists in Western Mass are doing to fight the BioMonster.

From the clearcutting and destruction of our public forest lands, to the increased pollution of our already failing air quality, to the exacerbation of climate change caused by excessive emissions of carbon dioxide, these dirty biomass incinerators being subsidized by state and federal regulators are being opposed by an organized and vocal majority.

2009 was a turning point in the battle to stop the BioMess, and the Enviro Show has put together this Special Edition to get the word out that we are not going to let these dirty incinerators foul our air and water while making obscene profits using super-inefficient and obsolete incineration technology. This one hour show will inform you and help to explain why we need to do everything we can to stop the Biomass insanity.

Greetings Earthlings. What's the state of our state environmentally speaking? Massachusetts State Sen. Stan Rosenberg calls-in with the details. Lots to cover, take the Wind Energy Siting Reform Act for instance! In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we review the recent climate actions in New York & Pittsburgh. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Rep. Steve Kulik seems ready to save the old-growth in our Commonwealth. We'll lay the Enviro Show Quote of the Week on you, return to our new "Meet the New Boss" segment, and tour the Bus Stop Billboard, but first it's time for.... Revenge of the Critters! Who put the Bee in baseball? Was the swarm fed up with the astroturf?

The Enviro Show Quote of the Week is from David Susuki:

"The human brain now holds the key to our future. We have to recall the image of the planet from outer space: a single entity in which air, water, and continents are interconnected. That is our home."

In the E-Valley-uation segment the Shut it Down Affinity Group is at it again!

We open up The Enviro Show Echo Chamber to the words of Rep. Steve Kulik. It's good news/bad news for the old growth trees in the Commonwealth. If only our VFR Time Machine was in working order, we might save those old trees on Mt. Wacchusetts the Crowley's destroyed years ago! And this: Pirates raid UN sideshow!. The Climate IMC reports that a well-endowed Greenpeace did a monster banner hang at the G20 in Pittsburgh (why do THEY get all the nice toys??). Finally, our Enviro Show Blog Bonus Specials! Star Wars for Idiots!. And that faux New York Post the Yes Men put out during the UN Climate Summit.

We return to our "Meet the New Boss" segment with another disheartening look at Obama's EPA & U.S. Fish & Wildlife. Yes, we thought he could!

[Here's the updates on those State Senate & House Bills we talked about with Stan. The newly introduced bottle bills are HERE. Rep. Peter Kocot's Act Prohibiting Clear Cuttingin State Forests and Parks is H765. Rep. Kulik's Act establishing old-growth reserves is H.1381. Call your reps supporting these bills.....OK?]

One final note: The Stop Spewing Carbon signature drive is critical for the ecological health of the Commonwealth. We need to collect 100,000 signatures by Nov. 16 from Massachusetts registered voters and we need YOUR help. If we get the needed signatures we can get a question on the ballot in 2010 to limit CO2 emissions from biomass incinerators. Go to www.stopspewingcarbon.com to learn more.

We'll go out with Tom Neilson's new tune about the Biomess that made its debut on SOME OTHER STATION! (groan). That is all......except remember....listen to your Mother!

Greetings Earthlings. It's down to the sea once again! This time: still trying to save Nantucket Sound from Big Wind corporados and their privatizing friends at GreenPee! (did i spell that right?). We talk with Audra Parker, Executive Director of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound about the issues and D.O. reports back from the line in the ....umm...sea? In our E-Valley-uation segment Jana Chicoine nearly gets busted for free speech on the Russell Biomess and in the Enviro Show Echo Chamber we recall Ted Kennedy's good work for Mother Earth. As always we do the Quote of the Week and checkout the Bus Stop Billboard, but first it's time for... Revenge of the Critters! No, Revenge of the Octopus!

The Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from the late Ted Kennedy:
"There is no morality in the mushroom cloud. The black rain will fall equally on the just and the unjust. And the world that is left in the ashes of Armageddon will little note nor long remember which was the evil empire."

And in the Enviro Show Echo Chamber we mourn the loss of The Lion of the U.S. Senate and review his long record of environmental legislation. Also, from the Center for Biological Diversity, Bat Alert: they need your help NOW! Finally, this Enviro Show Blog Action Special: Climate SOS!

In our E-Valley-uation segment we checkout Biomass Buzz for the near arrest of arch foe of the proposed Russell Biomess, Jana Chicoine for exercising her First Amendment Rights. Our link takes you to the cast of players. Looks like they're straight out of central casting!

Leading up to our interview with Audra Parker on the proposed Cape Wind/Bad Wind industrial project, D.O. gives a brief report-back from the frontlines on Martha's Vineyard where he had letters in both local papers and engaged in outreach wars with Greenpeace corporado supporters! Did we mention that the Wampanoags are opposed to the Cape Wind siting because it would be on sacred grounds? Yo Greenpeace? Are you listening?? See photos of GreenPee's corporate tactics here (note the copywrites? how terribly corporate!).

Until next time, remember: LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER!!

Do you know what's in the water coming out of your tap? (Didn't we already ask you that?). Whistle-blower and Director of New England Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, Kyla Bennett calls in with the low-down. And, The New Boss's signing statements are starting to look like the old boss's signing statements. We'll checkout The Enviro Show Echo Chamber with Jim Hightower on the invasion of the FrankenTrees! Also, the Quote of the week, but first it's time for..... Revenge of the Critters! Mum attacked by killer chipmunk!

In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we find Big Oil taking the cue from the far-right Astroturf screamers. They want to disrupt public events. Also, Jim Hightower scares the beejesus out of us with tales of the invasion of the FrankenTrees!

Soooo, you thought all those Bush Era signing statements and the scourge of the "unitary executive" were behind us? Think again! In our "Meet the New Boss" segment: Obama's embrace of Bush tactic riles Congress.

This timely Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from Rachel Carson:

"In the age when man has forgotten his origins and is blind to even his most essential needs for survival, water along with other resources has become the victim of his indifference".

In our E-Valley-uation segment: remember The Blob? Well after it terrorized small town PA back in '58 the U.S. Army dropped it in the Arctic thinking it would stay frozen forever, right? Arctic? Global Warming? Well......it's baaaack and it's right HERE in the Valley! And YOU can become one of its' victims!! We're taking The Blob to Pittsburgh for the G20 at the end of September and YOU are invited to accompany it! Just drop us an email saying you want to babysit The Blob and we'll get back to you. The address is: enviroshow@valleyfreeradio.org. ALSO This: there's an effort is underway to gut the Mass. Endangered Species Act!

"Prescription Chaos" by Linq from "Rx and the Side Effects" takes us to our interview with Kyla Bennett. Recall Kyla's efforts last year to keep more drugs and personal care products out of Massachusetts waters? No? Tune-in then!

Greetings Earthlings. It's back to the Biomess again! Hang onto your...umm...biosphere! Jana Chicone returns to the studio to update us on the proposed Russell biomass incinerator and Chris Matera calls in from his undisclosed location deep in the forests of New England where he'll speak for the trees. As always we check-in to our E-Valley-uation segment and The Enviro Show Echo Chamber, as well as hear The Quote of The Week, but first it's time for..... Revenge of the Critters! Attack of the trees!

The big news in our E-Valley-uation segment is, of course, the.....ahem...decision? by the Greenfield old boys network....umm...we mean Zoning Board of Appeals, giving the go-ahead for Madera Energy to build their biomass forest incinerator. Bring in the lawyers! Be sure to read Mary Serreze's piece in The Valley Advocate. While you're at it, checkout the new Mass Forest Watch Power Point. And, we MAY have a winner of the Chris Collins Climate Challenge! Only time will tell. Stay tuned!

"The Land of Fake Fires" by Joules Graves from "Plunge" segways us nicely into The Enviro Show Echo Chamber: Who says old news is no news?? We read from the Madera, California Tribune that Madera Power's (Yes, THAT Madera) biomass plant BLEW UP! two years ago. Also, Jeffrey St. Clair answers the disturbing questions: Who is Sam Hamilton? Who is Tom Tidwell? And why is Obama in bed with enemies of the Earth? And this: More corporate privatization of the Commons! This time for solar and geothermal energy! And this hold-over that went unread on the last show, Is it Bush Redux in the Obama White House?. Say it ain't so, O! Finally some GOOD NEWS: A federal judge just struck down the Bush administration's rules limiting protection and citizen oversight of the entire 193-million acre National Forest System.

The Quote of the week comes by way of loyal listener, Lynn from right here in the Valley. At the Greenfield ZBA hearing The Man from Epsilon Associates, Environmental Engineers and Consultants, regarding the proposed Greenfield forest incinerator said:

"There will be no change in air quality because we will be able to purchase offsets".

WHOA! It's like magic. Who needs atmospheric science!

Did you get enough thunderstorms last week? We'll raise one right here in the studio as an introduction to Jana & Chris, both of whom are raising a storm of protest over the oncoming biomess!

That does it for us....more or less. We'll be back next time looking at a Nuclear Free Furure. Until then, remember; listen to your Mother!

Greetings Earthlings. It's back to the biomess! Margaret Sheehan, Attorney at Law and arch foe of the proposed Greenfield forest incinerator joins us for more discussion on that lamest of greenwashing projects. In our E-Valley-uation segment we hear a report from Mary Serreze on the Greenfield ZBA hearing on the Biomess recently commandeered by the people, and in The Enviro Show Echo Chamber it's more news on humanity's assault on the planet. Of course, we'll checkout the Enviro Show Quote of the Week and The Bus Stop Billboard, but first it's time for.... Revenge of the Critters! Man-critter on the rampage......with a bulldozer! (Note: this doesn't end well for anyone and it could happen in a town near you!).

On to the E-Valley-uation segment. We'll let our friend Mary tell you what happened at YET ANOTHER canceled Greenfield Zoning Board of Appeals hearing on the controversial proposal for a forest incinerator out by the industrial park. And, speaking of Greenfield, we checkout some excellent energy conservation efforts from Greening Greenfield AND tell you all about our latest contest, The Chris Collins Climate Challenge!! That's the good news. For the bad news: BEWARE the Wind Energy Siting Reform Act! Take action HERE.

In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we are...sadly...not surprised to learn that the Obama administration has quietly decided to open the way for at least two dozen more "mountaintop removal" projects. And this from Grist: Everything you always wanted to know about the Energy/Climate Bill.....OK, so it's not everything.

With the effects on our forests from the Coming Biomess in mind, we have our talk with Margaret Sheehan.

We go out with "Using you" by Marie Mason from her "Not for Profit" disc is our reminder to loggers everywhere that the system is usually NOT YOUR FRIEND!

Soooo, that does it for this week. Next time it's the Sludge Show! We know you'll want to tune in for that one, right? That will be just after our Summer Solstice festivities so there'll be plenty of sludge to focus on! Until then, remember: listen to your Mother!!

Greetings Earthlings (and matees!). We are once again all wet on The Enviro Show as we dip into the majesty of (and travesties against) the sea. Linda Glover, co-author of "Ocean - An illustrated atlas" published by National Geographic, calls-in with news from The Deep. It's not Dress Like a Pirate Day here in the studio, but we may steal some appropriate booty for you to bury away. Also we'll delve into more nautical news in The Enviro Show Echo Chamber and the Quote of The Week, as well as see what's happening around The Valley eco-wise in The Bus Stop Billboard, but first it's time for........ Revenge of the Critters! Jellyfish shutdown nuke!

The Enviro Show Quote of the Week, in keeping with our theme, comes from none other than Capt. Paul Watson of the no nonsense direct action group, Sea Shepherd: "[Cape Wind] is a threat to seabirds and as a marine wildlife conservation organization, we represent our clients, marine wildlife and this Cape Wind project is not in their interest".

The Enviro Show Echo Chamber is getting mighty crowded! We have this from Grist: Lessons from the Exxon Valdez. Also, an Enviro Show Blog Bonus: Democracy Now! on the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. And checkout the three-fer: a Take Action Link on pirate fishing operations using harmful fishing methods that damage marine habitats and injure or kill other marine life; a link to a How Green is My Seafood Quiz, and another Take Action link to cancel new oil and gas leases in the Polar Bear Seas, home to endangered polar bears and other imperiled wildlife. Also, The New York Times tells us Mtn. top removal may not get get a free pass anymore. Here's a Take Action link for this one too! Finally, this from the AP: Report: Alternative energy killing birds. What? Windmills killing birds?? Who knew!

After our interview with Linda we play "The Last Leviathan" by Cadence Carroll, from the "Evolve" album.

Greetings Earthlings. We'll try not to go overboard about the deep blue sea once again, but you never know. There's pirates out there! Jackie Savitz Pollution Campaign Director, and Senior Scientist at Oceana joins us to discuss the human impact on the Seven Seas. Here on The Enviro Show blog we'll take you out on an Ocean Adventure with Jean-Michel Cousteau to Garbage Island. Back in the studio we'll forgo the sea-legs and content ourselves with visits to The Enviro Show Echo Chamber and rather than swear like a sailor (and risk losing our FCC license) we'll settle for The Enviro Show Quote of the Week. Also, the E-Valley-uation Segment returns with a vengeance, but first it's time for.... Revenge of the Critters! Lobster attacks!

The Enviroshow Quote of the Week comes from Rachel Carson:

“To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of year, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.”

We'll have some genuine whale songs to take you to the E-Valley-uation segment. Remember last time we spoke about some breaking news? Yes, The Earth First! Roadshow is coming to the Valley!! Last year, Al Gore called the blockading of construction sites of new power plants an appropriate response to the environmental crisis facing the planet. But this was no new mandate to Earth First!, who has been advocating grassroots direct action to protect and restore the planet for near 30 years. Now, the Earth First! Movement has launched its largest roadshow since the early 1980’s. The tour will include presentations, performances and trainings on environmental civil disobedience and will be making 100 stops in 30 states. The traveling group includes activists from various bio-regions representing ecological campaigns against logging, mining, road expansion, ocean exploitation, energy infrastructure and urban development. Also on the agenda of these events will be discussions of a new wave of political repression, coined the “Green Scare”, where environmentalists have experienced a documented increase in government surveillance, harassment and even entrapment.

The Roadshow will be at Amherst College at O'Connor Commons, Charles Pratt Hall on Thursday, April 23rd, 4:30PM-6:30pm for a participatory presentation followed by direct actions workshops at 7:30PM. For info on that contact our favorite student activist, Alissa at: aayden11@amherst.edu. This event is sponsored by the Amherst College Responsible Endowment Coalition and the Green Amherst Project. Co-sponsors are the UMass Eco-Coalition, part of UMass EarthWeek 2009 and your very own Enviro Show.

In addition, the Roadshow will be at The Evolution Café in Florence at 6pm on Friday, 24th following an all-day tour of state lands under the axe. Contact us about that gig: enviroshow@valleyfreeradio.org. Do not miss this, guys.

In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber we find Ocean mercury on the increase. Also, as you may have heard, a giant mass of Antarctic ice is "set for collapse". AND, speaking of The Poles, Hillary Clinton is said to be seeking greater protections for them (No, not THOSE Poles, the POLES!). Finally, last time we spoke with Linda Glover about the dwindling Tuna population, right? Well, last week we learned that the European Union countries adopted new rules to help restore endangered bluefin tuna in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. How about this rule: STOP FISHING!

"Disection of the Squid", by RoMak & the Space Pirates will take us to our interview with Jackie Savitz, Pollution Campaign Director, and Senior Scientist at Oceana.

Greetings Earthlings. Eric takes over on the board for this one 'cuz Glen went and scheduled some kind of meeting (what was he thinking??) We return to the issue of public lands in the Commonwealth being sacrificed for a slew of proposed biomass energy plants (some, like Glen for instance, would say INCINERATORS!), all in the name of .....what? the climate crisis? sustainability? pick a buzz-word, any buzz-word! Chris Matera of Mass Forest Watch returns to these microphones with that story. And this JUST IN: we may be laying the Swine Flu Outbreak at the feet of Big Meat! We'll also checkout some national enviro news in the Enviro Show Echo Chamber, hear the Quote of the Week and some tunes, but first it's time for..... Revenge of the Critters! Talk about a biomess: Ruffed grouse calls for destruction of Massachusetts forests!

The sounds of Spring Peepers brings us to our Enviro Show Quote of the Week. This one from FDR:

"A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people."

In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber it's a two-fer from the New York Times: EPA clears way for Greenhouse gas rules. And in an accompanying piece: Company hopes to store CO2 beneath ocean. Finally, an Enviro Show Blog Bonus Action Link on protecting our National Forests: Tell AG Holder - Stop defending Bush's policies on the Roadless Rule! More good news from the Obama machine: Bush-era endangered species rule revoked!

In our E-Valley-uation segment "Ancient Pines",by Loreena McKennitt takes us to our interview with Chris Matera of Mass Forest Watch.
